Whakapiki Ake
Hui ā Kura Years 12–13

Hui ā Kura for Years 12–13 brings the Whakapiki Ake team to schools and wharekura across Te Ika-ā-Māui between February and April. These focused sessions guide rangatahi who are interested in health careers and taking the necessary subjects to realise their aspirations. Our team is dedicated to establishing meaningful connections with students early in their academic journey, ensuring they have the support and guidance needed to succeed in their chosen health career pathway.

Pathways to Success

Our presentations focus on supporting rangatahi who are taking two or three applied sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) at Level 2 or Level 3, along with Mathematics and English-rich subjects. We break down the academic requirements and show you how your current subjects create stepping stones toward your health career aspirations. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, we demonstrate how these foundational subjects directly connect to future health careers and university study. Our team provides practical advice on subject selection, study techniques, and maintaining academic excellence while nurturing cultural identity.

Your Journey into Health

These student-centred sessions help you understand the various pathways into health careers at the University of Auckland. Connect with our team to learn about entry requirements, support systems, and how to prepare for your transition to university studies. Whether you’re considering medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or other health professions, we’re here to guide you toward your goals. We provide insights into the MAPAS admission process, scholarship opportunities, and the comprehensive support network available to Māori students. Our team shares stories of successful alumni and current students, offering realistic perspectives on university life and the journey ahead.
